The COVID-19 pandemic has brought the world literally to a standstill. Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), India through its 38 laboratories and expertise in diverse areas ranging from aerospace to buildings to genomics to chemicals, quickly sprang into action developing COVID-19 interventions. Worldwide there are no drugs available for the treatment. CSIR,India is exploring all possible options ranging from repurposed drugs to new drugs to Ayush products and biological therapeutics including Vaccines for COVID-19 mitigation. Two of these being 1.) SEPSIVAC (Mw) a repurposed drug and 2.) ACQH a new Phytopharmaceutical Formulation.
**SEPSIVAC (Mw)**: CSIR,India, and Cadila(Industry) have received regulatory approval for clinical trials to evaluate the efficacy of an existing gram-negative sepsis drug, called Sepisvac for COVID19 patients. The drug contains heat-killed Mycobacterium (Mw) and is found to be extremely safe in patients and no systemic side effects are associated with its use. Sepsivac has been clinically developed and approved for gram-negative sepsis, a severe infection. The drug has been shown to reduce the mortality of critically ill patients by more than half. It also leads to faster recovery of organ dysfunction seen in this condition. It is now approved for marketing in India and will be available commercially as SepsivacĀ® from Cadila Pharmaceuticals Ltd. The drug now is now being to combat Covid-19. Pre-trial clinical studies have demonstrated safety in COVID-19 patients.
**ACQH** is a Phytopharmaceutical Formulation. CSIR, India and Sun Pharma (Industry) are developing ACQH, a formulation developed for dengue being repositioned for coronavirus. The clinical trial approved by the Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI) is being done.
We eagerly look forward to partnering with R&D organizations and industries from around the world to take these technologies to the people.
