Coatings play an important role in many areas of public life as well as for medical applications. Implants become more compatible and their long-term stability is improved. In addition, the biological reaction can be specifically influenced via coating and structuring. Hygienically effective coatings are becoming increasingly important. Not only in the medical field, but also in everyday use, the number of so-called germ-reducing surfaces is increasing, since objects such as touch displays or shopping carts hold great potential for infection transmission. The possibilities of Fraunhofer FEP to equip such surfaces hygienically range from traditional hard material or metal coatings (e.g. with silver) to photocatalytically active coatings. This specifically prevents the colonization with pathogens.
